Home Care
Practicing good oral hygiene at home is important for maintaining a healthy, beautiful smile. Home dental care should include the following:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Clean between teeth daily with floss. Decay causing bacteria lingers between teeth where toothbrush bristles can reach. Flossing removes plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.
- Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.
- Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
Your dentist can also recommend specific oral care products that are the most effective for you. Don’t forget to replace your toothbrush every three to four months or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush will not clean your teeth well. Children’s toothbrushes should be replaced more frequently than adults as they tend to wear out sooner.
